Basics of the Chieftain

In this guide I’m going to cover the basics of the chieftain

Chieftain Basics:

The biggest flaw with the chieftain compared to the other covenant is early on as he is pretty much a go-to-guy. His combat effectiveness isn’t that great, hes just someone to warp units around with, until you hit his first hammer upgrade when he becomes useful. I’m going to briefly list and explain what upgrades i go for using my chieftain and why and against who:

Anders: Now until the TU3 (Title Update 3) 99.9% of Anders players will hog, hog and more hog you so my first and only upgrade is the vortex a t1 vortex will shred a hog in 2-3 seconds

Forge: Against a forge player i will upgrade hammer first (for stun vs early tanks) unless scouting reveals anything else such as Infantry, Hogs, Air then i would go vortex

Prophet and Arbiter: Mostly i will go hammer as 90% of players will rage/beam your chieftain when hes in view the hammer increases his health by ALOT and an early beam/rage attack will do next to nothing to him while draining all of the opponents resources

Chieftain: Now this can be tricky, if he is going to brute rush (revealed by scouting) i do not upgrade but instead pump out jackals until he switches up to air/tanks etc depending what he does; infantry/air (VORTEX) or Vehicles (Hammer)

Cutter: Again, this can be difficult to choose and it comes down to what scouting reveals. The golden rule comes into play again;
Infantry/Air = VORTEX and Vehicles (HAMMER)

so a recap:

Infantry/Air = VORTEX

Vehicles/Spartans = HAMMER

Vortex and you:
When using the vortex every time you (hit/damage) a unit it costs you money, so the trick is to tap/boom the vortex over units costing you next to nothing to use this, example

When anders rushes you with a few hogs, just enable then finish your vortex (double tap y over the units) to cause explosion damage but costing you around 20 resources or less.

Hammer and you:
When using the hammer what I tend to do is try and lock down two separate units. You do this by choosing two targets close together, hitting one, then changing to the other and repeat. This removes two Spartans/tanks etc which is alot of firepower/population while your forces mop up the non-stunned units.

So this pretty much covers the very basic game play of using the chieftain. Keep an eye out for more guides/strats coming soon
